Marmot Basin is a stunning resort around three-and-a-half hours from Banff. It has all of the scenery and snow without the crowds. The authentic mountain town has friendly locals and a huge range of runs, which is ideal for improvers and serious skiers and riders alike. Even the drive up to Jasper is incredible as you travel along the Icefields Parkway - the most spectacular route in the Rockies.

Ski lessons
There is no reason why beginners or mixed ability groups wouldn't love a ski holiday in Canada. All the Rocky Mountain resorts have a fantastic mix of runs from beginner to expert, keeping the whole party happy. Families and beginners will also find excellent ski schools at all the resorts. Canadian instructors are renowned for being super-friendly and have the added benefit of being native English-speakers, so you won't have any language barriers. -

Husky sledding
Banff and Jasper National Parks are the perfect for adventurous winter activities like dog-sledding. You can snuggle up warm in the sled or mush your own team of huskies across impressive frozen landscapes. Skim across the snow through sparkling forests and keep an eye out for wildlife, as the only noise will be the padding of paws on snow. Northern Lights
One incredible perk of skiing in the Rockies in winter is that you could spot the Northern Lights. The sight of those other-worldly greens and blues dancing in the sky is one that you will remember forever. From November to March is the best time to see the lights, which coincides with the ski season. You can look for the aurora yourself by heading out of town to somewhere with little light pollution or we can book a guided excursion for you. -
Ice climbing
Ice climbing is an exhilarating activity to try out in the winter months. You'll need to be brave but you'll be rewarding with a fun and thrilling adventure - and a huge sense of achievement, of course! Maligne Canyon in Jasper National Park is one of the most stunning spots to try ice climbing as it is filled with frozen waterfalls. No experience is necessary on this expedition into the frozen world and all equipment will be provided. You'll soon be scaling a frozen waterfall and achieving things you never thought possible! -
Fat biking
Did you know that you can cycle in the snow? This unusual activity is a really fun way to experience the stunning snow-covered landscapes of Banff and Jasper National Parks. The 'fat bikes' have extra-wide wheels to cope with the snowy ground. In Alberta, the locals embrace the winter weather and get outside to enjoy all the unique activities that only the snow allows. You should too! -

Snowshoeing
Snowshoeing is a fantastic way to see the snowy scenery. Although the views from the slopes are fantastic, you'll be so busy zooming to the bottom that you may not have time to take them in! On a guided snowshoe excursion, you will be shown the best scenic routes through the Rocky Mountains National Parks. As snowshoeing is such a soft and silent activity, you'll also have great chances of spotting wildlife on your walk.

When to go
The SkiBig3 and Marmot Basin resorts offer a 6-month ski season from November to May. Resort dates are dependent on weather and snowfall. The latest opening and closing dates are listed below:

Lake Louise - 9 November, 2018 to 5 May, 2019
Mt. Norquay - 2 November, 2018 to Mid-April, 2019

National Parks
The Canadian Rockies are home to two incredible national parks, Banff and Jasper. Banff National Park is also home to the SkiBig3 resorts allowing for great scenic views and wildlife spotting as you ski its vast variety of runs. Head along the Icefields Parkway from Lake Louise to Jasper and witness spectacular lakes, waterfalls and glaciers on the way. An array of wildlife awaits visitors at Jasper National Park including moose, elk and bears. -
Average snowfall
As the condition in the rockies is dry and cold, the snow is much lighter and drier than other Canadian ski resorts. These dry conditions make for fine fresh powder with every snowfall throughout the 6-month ski season. Your ski holiday in the Canadian Rockies
The stunning Canadian Rockies offer some of the best ski conditions in the world. The Rocky Mountains run through the heart of the province of Alberta and are easily accessible from Calgary airport. In the picturesque mountain town of Banff, 90 minutes from Calgary, you can ski the famous dry powder snow of the Rockies by day and indulge in the dining and après on offer by night. Just half an hour from Banff is the hamlet of Lake Louise with its famous namesake lake. Both towns offer easy access to the SkiBig3 resorts - Mount Norquay, Sunshine Village and Lake Louise Ski Resort - which can all be skied on the same lift pass. Choose Banff if you'd like a lively town centre or opt for Lake Louise for peace and seclusion. Both towns are situated in Banff National Park which is full of attractions and activities.
Around three and a half hours from Banff by car is the mountain town of Jasper. Just getting here is a treat as you'll drive along the world-famous Icefields Parkway. This highway through the Rockies passes dozens of lakes, waterfalls and glaciers which are all spectacular in their dazzling winter coats. Once you reach Jasper, you'll be treated to an authentic, down-to-earth town full of friendly locals and quiet accommodations that sits with the Jasper National Park. You can combine Jasper with Banff and Lake Louise on a ski safari holiday if you want to explore even more of Alberta.
All the Rocky Mountain ski resorts offer a range of runs from green to double black. Everyone from couples to groups to families will find something to suit their experience level. There is plenty of terrain to cover which means you'll be more than entertained for a week's holiday. The best ski runs
The Dell Valley run at Banff Sunshine Village is a great option for beginners. 90 Glades at Mt. Norquay is a thrilling run for intermediate skiers and riders. Lake Louise's E Gulley is perfect for advanced skiers with epic terrain and exhilarating powder chutes. Show Off and Highway Sixteen are regular favourites at Marmot basin.
