Day 1 Fly to Vancouver / Whitehorse

You are in transit today. Fly to Vancouver with Air Transat. You'll get a few hours to relax before your evening flight to Whitehorse. Overnight in Whitehorse.

Day 2 Whitehorse to Haines Junction (161km)

You have the morning to take the time and enjoy Whitehorse before collecting your vehicle, head west on the historic Alaska Highway, a modern, two-lane highway that began as a trading route between First Nations. Overnight in Haines Junction.

Day 3 Haines Junction / Kluane

The picture-postcard village of Haines Junction boasts a wilderness adventure playground in its backyard. Your stay in Haines Junction will depend on how much fishing & sightseeing you want to do. Kluane National Park and Reserve is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and about half the size of Switzerland and is also home to the highest concentration of grizzly bears in North America. Chances of seeing them along the  Road are high so keep the binoculars and camera handy For the ultimate I-can’t-believe-how-awesome-that-was experience, a flightseeing tour over the Major Peaks of the St. Elias tops the list. Overnight in Haines Junction.

Day 4 Haines Junction to Haines, Alaska (258km)

When you Leaves Haines Junction today, follow the signs to Haines, Alaska on the Haines Highway. It used to be a packhorse trail to the Klondike Gold Fields … 20 years before the Gold Rush of 1898. As you head towards Haines, keeping your eyes on the road and not the breathtaking mountain views can prove challenging. Along the way, explore the seasonal First Nations fishing camp of Klukshu Village as well as Million Dollar Falls. Kathleen Lake is a great place to stop for a picnic. Before entering the town,  the area along the Chilkat River flats, alongside the Haines Road, is a critical habitat for bald eagles and an outstanding place to observe them. Overnight in Haines.

Day 5 Haines

Welcome to the Adventure Capital of Alaska! Located along the edge of North America's longest and deepest fjord, it is like no other destination. With fascinating history, intriguing culture, breathtaking scenery and adventure to last a lifetime, there’s no question that the time you spend when you visit Haines will be enjoyed and remembered for years to come. 

Day 6 Haines

Fill the long daylight hours of summer with a rafting trip, a deep-sea halibut fishing charter, or a hike through an ancient spruce forest. Visit museums dedicated to our earliest residents, the Native Tlingit people, and a national favorite, the American Bald Eagle. And if your still up for more, explore gold rush era Fort William H. Seward. Overnight in Haines.

Day 7 Haines

If you'd like to visit Juneau, Alaska Fjordlines offers a 12 hour Wildlife and Sightseeing Cruise departing from Haines at 8.45 daily from mid-May until early September.  Head south through the Lynn Canal, the continent's longest and deepest glacial fjord, stretching over 100 miles long and over 2000 feet deep.  You'll see hanging glaciers, nesting bald eagles, harbor seals and whales. Overnight in Haines.

Day 8 Haines to Skagway - By Ocean Ferry (11km)

Once you have enjoyed this coastal town to its fullest, it will be time to drive onto the ferry and head to Skagway. It only takes an hour, but if you were to drive, it would take you eight hours. Onboard the ferry to Skagway, watch out for whales, eagles and maybe even grizzly bears fishing for salmon on this scenic trip. Overnight in Skagway.

Day 9 Skagway

Skagway was the gateway to the Klondike gold fields—from here, prospectors hiked the Chilkoot Trail to Bennett Lake and then navigated the Yukon River to Dawson City. Today, it’s a well-preserved gold rush town and major cruise ship port with a wealth of activities to enjoy. Stroll along the wooden boardwalks and soak up the history and lively vibe of this bustling town. And if you like your fries with a side of history, call in to the Red Onion Saloon—one of the original dance halls and bordellos in town. Overnight in Skagway. 

Day 10 Skagway

No visit to Skagway would be complete without a ride on the White Pass and Yukon Route Railroad. Built in 1898 to service the Klondike Gold Rush, this narrow gauge railway is now a Historic Civil Engineering Landmark. The track climbs 3000 ft in just 20 miles, through tunnels and across sky-high trestle bridges. Take an unforgettable journey aboard the “Scenic Railway of the World” and begin your excursion as you board the train in Skagway and travel 20 miles from tidewater, to the Summit of the White Pass - a 2,865 foot elevation! The fully narrated tour passes through two tunnels, over skyhigh trestles, and cascading waterfalls. Overnight in Skagway.

Day 11 Skagway to Carcross (113km)

The next leg of this trip will start with a shock: In a mere 10 minutes you will leave behind broadleaf cottonwood trees of a coastal rain forest and enter a moonscape of glacially scarred granite and stunted heather on the top of a mountain at 1004 metres above the Pacific Ocean you just left. Located on the Klondike Highway south of Whitehorse, the village of Carcross was originally named Caribou Crossing by miners who had reached this junction point of the Tagish and Bennett lakes en route to the Klondike gold fields at Dawson. Overnight in Carcross.

Day 12 Carcross to Whitehorse (80 km)

Your last day on the road begins immediately with the Carcross Desert, the world’s smallest desert. It is 260 hectares and is home to several plant species that cannot be found anywhere else in the world. It also offers unusual recreational opportunities for outdoorsy visitors. Many in Whitehorse travel south during the summer months to go sandboarding on the dunes. Overnight in Whitehorse.

Day 13 Whitehorse

Sadly, today you have to return your motorhome. Enjoy the rest of your day hy explore the city, its wildlife preserve & the Takhini Hot Springs. Overnight in a Whitehorse Hotel.

Day 14 - Fly to Vancouver / Home - End of the tour

Today you depart Whitehorse with your head full of wonderful memories and you fly to Vancouver to catch your international flight back home...or why not stay longer in Vancouver?
